The guide

Understand to move forward

What happens in the brain, what really helps, and what is a myth.

How to help someone who is struggling

You don't help someone out of a loop by watching them. You help by giving them a system.

Someone who is struggling lives two things at once: the urge, and the shame of the urge. Shame pushes them to hide, and what stays hidden repeats. What really helps is talking about it without judgment, understanding that it's a learned automatism and not a character flaw, and putting a tool in their hands that holds on the day they don't.

What you can do
  • Talk about the mechanism, not morals
  • Offer a framework, never surveillance
  • Give them a way out for the minutes when the urge rises

Where to start when you want to stop

Day one isn't won with willpower. It's won with what you set up before the urge.

An urge only lasts a few minutes. What makes it dangerous is arriving without a plan: the evening, tiredness, boredom, the phone in bed. Starting means setting a date, spotting those moments, and having a move ready for the wave. Every day held becomes proof, and proof adds up.

Where to begin
  • Day 0: you set the date, and the loop already has a limit
  • An emergency button for the minutes when it rises
  • Milestones, from Aube to Alcyone, so every week held counts

Why willpower alone isn't enough

When the urge is there, it's already the third beat out of four. Fighting at that moment is braking a car that has already taken the turn.

Porn and compulsive masturbation fire the reward circuit with a force few things match, and every new tab restarts the interest: it takes more and more for the same effect, sessions get longer, and energy, sleep and focus pay the price the next day. That's not weakness, it's learning. And what was learned can be unlearned, provided you have a system at the hardest moment.

What replaces willpower
  • A blocker that lengthens the path between the urge and the act
  • Short exercises to keep your mind busy while the wave passes
  • A community that has been through the same thing, even at two in the morning

What really changes after 90 days

Nobody can promise you a timeline. But the direction is known: what excess turned down, rest turns back up.

In the first weeks the brain demands: that's withdrawal, and it passes. Then, in an order everyone describes their own way, come back morning energy, a clearer mind, focus that holds, real desire for a real person, and above all the end of the secret, that tiredness of hiding you had stopped noticing. The counter doesn't measure days. It measures what you get back.

What often changes
  • More energy, and sleep that restores
  • Confidence that no longer depends on a screen
  • Simpler relationships, a calmer gaze

Frequently asked questions

What is STOPR?

A self-guided app for adults who want to break free from a habit they didn't choose. It brings together a daily plan, a way out when an urge hits, progress tracking and short lessons.

Is STOPR free?

Downloading the app and the starter journey are free. Advanced features are part of a subscription: €5.99 per week or €15.99 per month, with a 3-day trial, or €69.99 per year. For a limited time, the yearly plan comes with a launch offer on the first year; both prices are shown in the app before you buy. Automatic renewal, cancel anytime from the App Store.

Is my data private?

Without an account, everything stays on your phone. If you create an account and turn on backup, your progress and your journal are hosted in the EU, only with your consent, and deleted along with your account. No ads, no tracking.

What does the emergency button do?

It opens a short sequence designed for the moment the urge rises: guided breathing, a reminder of your reasons, and a way out. The urge passes; the goal is to hold on while it does.

What does progress tracking do?

It turns days into visible markers: current streak, milestones reached, risky moments. A relapse doesn't reset the journey, it becomes information.

How do milestones work?

Every milestone unlocks a planet. It's not a game: it's a record of what you held on to, for the days you don't remember it.

Which devices does STOPR work on?

iPhone, for now. The Android version will come later. Your journey and your data follow you from one device to the next if you turn on backup.

How do I cancel?

From the App Store subscription settings, in two taps, at any time. Nothing to do on our side.
